Case Study BancTec
Background
BancTec is a global leader in business process outsourcing (BPO), providing financial transaction automation and document management services for organisations seeking to drive efficiency in their financial and back-office processes. With offices across Europe and clients in 50 countries, BancTec leverages its proprietary IP and deep expertise to provide flexible, focused solutions across the financial services, insurance, healthcare, utility, transportation and government sectors.
The marketing need
Having recently gone through an initial rebranding process, the company required a design style for all their printed marketing collateral and for creative templates to be formatted, which could then be passed to all their global locations.
It was understood that each global office had autonomy with regards to the creation of sales/marketing documents but a brand-consistent corporate style was required.
The document templates needed to be designed with both flexibility and simplicity as some global offices were more proficient with InDesign than others.
The strategy
BancTec operate at the top end of the document and payment processing market, providing a range of advanced scanning,BPOand hosted solutions. To affirm this position, Design Inc first needed to understand the range of marketing documents required within this branding process. Five types of document were realised: Data Sheets, Case Studies, White Papers, Solution Brochures andCompany Brochures. In addition to these, a series of strategic advertising and exhibitions were already booked and required collateral.
It was quickly noted that the five document types ranged in terms of style, from factually basedDataSheets (promoting a individual product) through to a more 'company values' corporate brochure. With this knowledge, we were able to formulate the strategy of a creative 'hierarchy' of documents with the most information heavy document (DataSheets) sitting at the first 'level'.
The creative
Having already established the need for the documents to be designed hierarchically, it was now the role of the Design Inc creative team to formulate the structure of this family style.
It was imperative that the creative documents:
- retained a corporate feel
- conformed to the new brand rules
- showed consistency throughout
- possessed a 'step-change' in the design style and structure at each step within the hierarchy
- had a template which was understandable, useable, flexible and reasonable
The results
InDesign files were supplied to the client along with the imagery (with worldwide rights) for them to pass across to all their global offices. It was important for all parties that we also set the precedent for future versions of the documents by supplying not just the document templates but also a finished version of each. A finished DataSheet, Case Study, White Paper and Product Brochure were supplied ready for printing.
Since this project, the relationship between the two companies has gone from strength to strength due to both proactive & reactive customer relations as well as a solid understanding of the creative process.
